SMI Hub shortlisted for University of Manchester Better World Award

The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Science and Engineering host the Better World Awards annually, to recognise and communicate the outstanding social responsibility activities across the faculty.

The awards celebrate the important contribution staff and students at the University make to social and environmental impact and to hopefully inspire others to do the same.

We’re pleased to announce that the SMI Hub has been shortlisted for an award in the “Outstanding contribution to social innovation and environmental impact through enterprise” category. This award recognises innovation through the creation of novel solutions to societal and environmental problems through either an emerging project or an existing enterprise.

The award is assessed by a panel, based on:

  • Innovation: Demonstrate innovative thinking through improvements to products, services, delivery, technology, or interventions.
  • Impact: How the activity addresses a social, economic or environmental problem and has a positive impact on individuals, organisations, and the wider community.
  • Values: The motivation to create a vision and model for sustained behavioural change and impact led outcomes, aligned to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The winners will be announced at the Better World Awards, on Wednesday 22 June 2022, hosted by the Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty Professor Martin Schröder, the Director of Faculty Operations and Vice Dean for Social Responsibility and EDIA.
